Native to the Himalaya Trachycarpus fortunei has Large fan-shaped leaves with yellow flower panicles on mature plants. Grows a single hairy trunk. Height in the region of 2m after 10 years. If fed well and watered in hot weather can grow up to 30cms of trunk a year when established. It will grow in most parts of Britain. It is tolerant of heavier clay soils and some shade. Can be container grown.

Cordyline australis 'Purpurea' £15.95

The lance shaped dark purple leaves reach 3 feet long. The white flowers whose scent is reminiscent of Jasmine are small, borne in large panicles in spring and summer. Mature specimens have tall strong trunks with leaves at the top, resembling a palm tree. They are striking container specimens and do well in borders.
Needs full sun.
Will eventually grow to approximately two metres.
Chamaerops humilis (Small) £20.99
Chamaerops humilis is a clump forming palm that can grow up to 15 ft in height. The fan shaped leaves grow to about 20 inces long by 24 inches wide. The leaf stems are armed with very sharp teeth.
Chamaerops humilis is a very wind tollerant palm being even tougher than it's big brother the Trachycarpus.

Cordyline Australis
Cordyline australis can be grown in any garden soil but appreciates some compost added. Grow in sun or shade, and while can be drought tolerant, prefers adaquate water in warm weather. Hardy as a trunked tree to -9C although will survive but die down to ground level at lower temperatures. It will then regrow multitrunked from the rootstock the next year.

Exact in its appearence to its single stemed cousin the multi-stem grows several trunks and heads from its base and can grow to seven metres in height.
