With far more interest than a fence or a wall, more and more people are planting hedges and discovering that hedging in Cornwall is a practical solution for your garden. Like wise why settle for a border that only looks great for three or four months of the year? With shrubs you can create a structure and palette of colour that are there all year round.
There are many species of plant that thrive as hedging in Cornwall, some need a more sheltered spot but many such as Olearia, Griselinia and Escalonia are hardy enough to withstand tough coastal conditions. Others such as Eleagnus, Photinia and Bay Laurel also do well in Coastal situations but out of direct winds. Another plant you may not have considered as using as part of a mixed hedge is Rosemary which is very salt tolerant.
If you live further inland you are even more spoilt for choice for hedging in Cornwall.

Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' 35 litre pot £85.00
Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin is a dense upright evergreen shrub or small tree with glossy, dark green leaves which are dark red when young. Small white flowers appear in spring. Requires full sun and well drained soil. Grows to approximately 2 - 3 metres but withstands hard pruning.

A hebe with a naturally clipped look, it forms a rounded shrub with mid - green foliage & little white flowers that sit on the leaves during summer.

Phormium Tenax 'Jester' (New Zealand Flax) is an evergreen clump forming perennial with leathery upright leaves. Useful border plant providing contrast, or as young plants in containers.

Callistemon laevis makes a big bushy shrub with slender branches crowded with long dark-green leaves. The flowers are large bottle brushes; rose-pink, bristly, and with gold tints at the tip of the bristles. It flowers during late spring and early summer. It will make a more garden worthy shrub, and a more manageable one when grown in a pot, if it is pruned back after flowering reducing the length of the flowering stems. If pruned for containment it should reach around 2m (7ft) height and spread. It is likely to achieve more than twice those dimensions if left to its own devices in a very warm site.
